Andrew Sokol Obituary

Andy Sokol died unexpectedly in his sleep on September 7, 2021.  He was born November 22, 1961 in Indiana, but lived the majority of his life in South Florida, both in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.  He is survived by people who adored him:  his 4 children Derek (Kasey), Brian, Crystie, and Austin Sokol, grandson Ashton Sokol, mother Carol (Cicenas) Horbelt, his fiancée and long-time life partner Gina St. George, and nieces and nephews.  He is pre-deceased by his father Andrew Sokol and his two brothers, Jeremy and Greg Sokol.

Andy was a long-time member of the Broward County business community and the Broward County legal community through his company CopyScan Technologies, which was founded in 1995 and RecordSHRED, which was founded in 2003 and sold in 2015.  He had a big professional network in South Florida from his businesses, and he had an even bigger nationwide network of like-minded entrepreneurs, with whom he was constantly seeking professional and personal improvement.  He was active in the Czeck-Slovak culture, and was connected to many relatives in Europe.

Andy loved the outdoors and was involved with the Boy Scouts, both as a kid himself, a Troop leader with all three of his sons, and as a merit badge counselor thereafter.  He continued to enjoy camping, but most of all, enjoyed riding his motorcycle.  He also enjoyed traveling and exploring new places.

He was beloved by all – by those who knew him as a father, grandfather, uncle, son, a life partner, a business partner, and a friend.   Unanimous sentiment about Andy is that he was the nicest guy, a helpful person, a funny guy who entertained everyone around him, who was positive through challenges, and worked hard without quitting during difficult times.  Everyone who knew him loved his upbeat attitude and enjoyed being around him.  People who knew him well knew a guy with a wicked sense of humor who loved making people laugh.

Andy lived a full life, even if it was too short.

Visitation will be from 4 – 8 pm on Friday September 17th at Stanfill Funeral Home in Miami.  He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Davie on Saturday at 12pm.

Andy was involved with animal rescue, and specifically with Dobermans, and he had adopted two of them.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Andy Sokol's name can be made online at www.DobeRescue.net, via Zelle to 954-946-4100 or via check payable to Doberman Rescue League, which can be mailed to PO Box 24065  Oakland Park,  FL 33307.
