Dolores Joyce Meier Obituary

Dolores Joyce (Fenske) Meier was born April 8, 1919, in Bigelow Township, the daughter of Julius and Marie (Marquardt) Fenske. She married Lawrence Meier in December of 1940 at her home west of Worthington. Dolores attended all her school years in Bigelow and graduated in 1937. She moved west of Worthington with her parents in 1938. Dolores worked in Club Cafe, The Plaza, and Ehlers Steak House as a waitress. She worked many years at Oxford Cleaners and Band Box Cleaners. She also worked at Hintgen Upholstery for 12 years and at Peterson Quality Chickens for 12 years, retiring in 1991 at the age of 72 years old. Dolores enjoyed fishing with her grandkids and would go with her brother Marvin and sister-in-law Ellen to northern MN fishing. She enjoyed needle point and crocheting and she taught her granddaughters and great granddaughter to crochet also. She enjoyed her garden and her flowers. She was a giver - if anyone needed a place to stay or food, or just someone to talk to and to go to for advice; she was there no question asked day or night. She was known to most as Granny, not to just her own grandchildren, but to many other people. Dolores passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Hospice of Murray County in Slayton, MN. Dolores is survived by three children, Michael Meier of Worthington, MN, Mary Meier of Sioux Falls, SD, and Marvel (Lilah) Meier of Baltic, SD; six grandchildren, Steven (Jacalyn) Meier of Chicago, IL, Melanie Ackland of Austin, TX, Matthew (Tina) Meier of Sioux Falls, SD, Tina Bootsma Meier (significant other Brandon Chapman) of Lake Wilson, MN, Kaila Meier of Sioux Falls, SD, and Karissa Stern of Sioux Falls, SD; twelve great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Clare Ann Fenske of Alamo, TX, and special friends and neighbors, Sonia Arrequin & family, Linda Moore, Lori Dynes, Deb & Mike Lorang, and Linda Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Marvin Fenske, Kenneth Fenske, and Willis Fenske; two sisters, Gertrude Little and Lorraine Childers, and one grandchild, Tony Meier. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Mark Schreiber officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
