Harriet Carol (Orchard) Monkman, 91, Pillager, MN, died on September 12, 2021, at Bethany Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Brainerd, MN, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Harriet Monkman, the oldest of four children, was born to Clinton and Edith Orchard in Duluth, MN, on April 7, 1930. She graduated from Central High School in 1948. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Duluth, MN, in 1951. She married Robert Edward Monkman on October 28, 1952. She worked as a nurse in Duluth, Bemidji, and Brainerd, MN. She also lived in De Smit, SD, Iron River, WI, and Pillager, MN. Continuing her education, she graduated with a Bachelors’ degree in Nursing from Saint Scholastica In 1984. She retired from Nursing in 1998.
Harriet is survived by her sister, Betty Greenley; three sons, James (Catherine), David, and Steven Monkman; two granddaughters, Samantha Monkman and Nikki (Dino) Monkman-Lou; and a great-granddaughter, Lorelai Monkman-Lou. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Beverly Denney, and her brother Robert Orchard, her former husband Robert Monkman, and her son William Scott Monkman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 16th, 2021, 11:00 am, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 S 6th Street, Brainerd, MN 56401. The service will be streamed on Trinity’s YouTube(TM) Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/TrinityBrainerd
