Obituary

LINA MILITANO
(nee PRINCI)
April 16, 1932 – September 12, 2021

Peacefully with family at her side, Lina passed away at the age of 89.

Lina is survived by her children Carmine (Nancy), Rosa (Delfin Martin), and Cathy (Joe Funk); her beloved grandchildren Anthony (Cathryn Thomas), Kaitlyn, and Daniel Militano; Julia and Anthony Martin; Montana and Matteo Funk; her sister Angela Gelardi; sisters-in-law Giuseppina Princi, Pasqualina Princi, Domenica Militano, and Alphonsa Militano (Italy); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lina was predeceased by her husband Nino, her parents Raffaele and Caterina Princi, and her brothers Antonio and Raffaele Angelo.

Lina was born in Delianuova, Reggio Calabria, Italy, where she lived until she was 22. In 1954 she immigrated to Canada to join her husband Nino, where they would start a family and establish their lives. Lina was a seamstress and a homemaker. Most importantly, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Her love for her family knew no bounds. Each grandchild had a special place in her heart, and she cherished each one individually.

Lina taught us to how to live a life of faith (she cherished her time on the Holy Rosary Women’s Auxiliary), kindness, generosity, courage, and determination. She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Holy Rosary Church – viewing is at 11:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Those who wish, may watch the Mass virtually by going to https://youtu.be/gi4HVujwI0Q. Entombment will follow in Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street. Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are nephews Raffaele Princi, Ralph Gelardi, Carmine Militano, Carmelo Militano, Joe Zirino and Rocco Giampaolo.

We would like to thank Florence Kasirye for her care and friendship over many years, Herminia Teluz for the devotion, compassion, and dignified care she provided to our Mother, as well as the Palliative Care team for their kindness and consideration.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cardiac Patient Care at the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.
