Helen H. Simmons Obituary

Helen H. Simmons, "The Best Irish Nana," 94, of Seekonk, MA passed away on December 30, 2020 at Hope Health Hospice Center. Born in Providence on March 31, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Sarah (Ford) Hanley. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, she worked at the former Industrial National Bank and later as a nursery school teacher at Gordon School in East Providence, RI.

Helen loved watching all sports, especially her New England teams. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing cards, and loved singing, especially while watching the Lawrence Welk Show. One of her favorite outings was her annual tea party with her daughters at first, then her granddaughters, and then her great-granddaughters. Her greatest joy was her family who she nurtured with unconditional love and generosity. She will be missed but always remembered with every sip of tea we drink, every fluttering butterfly we spot, every Guinness we enjoy, and every sports event we watch.

Helen is predeceased by her husband, Bud Simmons and her grandson Scott Simmons. She is survived by her five children, Lynne Clegg (Steve) of Seekonk, Colleen Colabella (Bovio) of CT, Brad Simmons (Dianne) of Harrisville, Marian Bliss (Jim) of CT, Cindy Cotter (Norman) of Rehoboth, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Due to covid restrictions her funeral will be private with arrangements by Perry-McStay Funeral Home. Our family would like to extend our sincere thank you to Bethany House and Hope Health Hospice Center for their compassionate care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hope Health Hospice Center, 1085 N. Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
