John Selden Brady, 88, of Vernon, CT, formerly of East Hartford, CT and Watertown, CT, died Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Vernon Manor Health Care Center after a long struggle with cancer. Born in 1932 in Westerly, RI, to Charles and Rhoda (Young) Brady. John grew up in Naugatuck, CT with his younger brother, Sam. John was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and a champion swimmer. He was a Captain in the US Air Force and proudly flew jet aircraft. John and his first wife, Joyce (Webster) settled in Watertown, CT where they raised their family. He was owner and president of Webster’s Insurance Service in Waterbury for over 30 years. After he sold the business he continued his career with AFLAC. During his life, John served his community in many ways including: President of the Waterbury Lions Club, President of the Waterbury Club, Board of Directors of the Thomaston Savings Bank, and on various insurance associations. He was an active member of the Masons and the Shriners. John loved to share stories of working on his grandfather’s farm in Westerly, RI. Some of his fondest memories were milking cows and working with his grandfather, Selden Young. John loved to fish, and he enjoyed all kinds of outdoor work in his yard. He was a life-long Red Sox and New York Giants fan. John is survived by his brother Sam of South Windsor, his daughter, Sharon and her husband, Bruce MacDonald of Cummaquid, MA, and three grandchildren, Lindsay Hite and her husband Russell of Weymouth, MA, Nicole Kliegl and her husband, Robert of Terryville, CT, Brooke Brady and her fiancé, Chad Maheux of Haddam, CT, and two great grandchildren, Logan and Evie Kliegl and nieces, Kathy Brady of South Windsor and Mary Jean Burkell of Wethersfield, CT. He was predeceased by his son, Jack Brady of Middletown, CT and Punta Gorda, FL, as well as his second wife, Geri (Johnston) of East Hartford, CT.The family would like to thank the staff at Vernon Manor Healthcare Center for their compassion and dedication in taking care of John. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, September 22 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a service beginning at 11:00 am at Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury, CT.
