Gail Marie Thurber

Gail Marie Thurber passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Hackettstown Medical Center at the age of 78 years old. Gail was born on May 30, 1943, in Paterson, NJ, and grew up in Glen Rock, NJ. She attended high school at the Academy of Mount Saint Vincent in Tuxedo, NY, and studied at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Gail was proud to secure her first job out of college as a graphic artist at Mosstype Corporation in Waldwick, NJ. Later, Gail applied her love for animals and worked as a Veterinarian Technician for nearly ten years at Califon Animal Hospital. Vivacious, social, and naturally charitable, Gail was known for having such a zest for life. Always on the move, Gail had a passion for spending time outdoors; walking her dogs, caring for her horses/ponies, and other farm animals she rescued over the years. As a talented artist, she enjoyed painting and creative projects. Her "Lake House" on Lake Lackawanna in Stanhope, NJ was her favorite retreat, where she appreciated the quiet time kayaking on the lake and reading with her book club friends. She also had a special knack for gardening with the enviable ability to make anything grow. Most of all, Gail loved spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. Gail is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Harry "Jerry" Thurber, her 7 children, Thomas and wife Kim "KC", Kimberly Sokolowski and husband Todd, Jon and wife Elisa, Jenny and boyfriend Scott Champagne, Scott, Jayme, Carliyonna and boyfriend Matthew Bertero, as well as her son-in-law, Stan Werth, her brother, Jay Holzinger, and her 7 grandchildren, Grace, Riley, Sienna, Leila, Catherine, Colin, and Ashten. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl Gaede, Margaret Gaede, her stepfather, Joseph Holzinger, her brother Chuck Gaede, and her beloved daughter, Jessica Werth. A Celebration of Gail's Life will include a memorial visitation on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at St. Luke's Parish, 265 West Mill Road, Long Valley, NJ from 11am to 1pm followed by a 1pm Funeral Mass. Interment will be held privately by the family.
