M. Maxine Wehry

Maxine Wehry (née Cardinal), 09/10/2021, in St. Petersburg, FL. Preceded by husband Albert, she is survived by children Kay, Susan (Brooke), Jeanne (Gerald) Rittinger, Mark (Laura), and Joe; grandchildren Julie (Sean) Kelly, and Christina, Hillary, Sean, and Devin Wehry; great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Dylan Kelly; brothers Jack (Wanda), Edd (Pat), Tony (LouAnn); and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Preceded by parents Anthony and Pearl Cardinal; stepmother, Anna Cardinal; sisters Laurayne, Dorothy Teising, and Jane Trent; and brothers Woodrow, John, Bill, Dick, and Bruce. Maxine served with the US Marine Corps Women's Reserve in WWII. At age 87, she chronicled her experience in her book, A Kindred Spirit (2012). Volunteer work included chaplaincy service, and bereavement & palliative care at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Bay Pines. She served on the St Therese Altar Society, and both the Mothers’ & Over-50 Clubs and as a Eucharistic minister at St. Therese, St. John Vianney & Most Holy Name of Jesus. Memberships and offices included: the Gulfport Senior Center Writer’s Workshop; both National and Gulf Coast Chapters of the Women Marines Association; the Marine Corps League,Vincennes; and Women in Military Service of America (WIMSA), Washington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 18th at St. Therese Church, 11 Temple Place, Southgate with the burial to follow at St. Stephen Cemetery, 1523 Alexandria Pike, Ft. Thomas. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Saint Therese Church (Support St. Therese Parish); Alliance for Catholic Urban Education (ACUE) Tuition Assistance (ACUE), 1125 Madison Ave., Covington, KY 41011; Women in Military Service for America Memorial (womensmemorial.org); or a charity of your choice.
