Ruth Ellen Daugherty Obituary

Ruth Ellen Daugherty was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 26, 1947. She was an only child of Samuel and Margaret Virginia (Pate) Robinson. Ruth grew up in Cleveland and attended Longwood Elementary and Kennard Junior High Schools. She completed her high school equivalency through night school. Ruth and Leo met when they were 5 years old and Leo told her at that time that when he grew up, he was going to marry her. After enlisting into the Air Force, Leo stayed true to his word and 14 years after making that promise they were married on March 23rd, 1966 . Through the Air Force they were able to travel all over the world, which Ruth loved. Through their travels Ruth learned to speak fluent Greek and found a love for the theater. She participated in many stage plays. They were stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado and it was here where they returned from Greece and decided to settle and raise their family. In 1968 there was a "Crusade For Christ" campaign run by East Side Church of Christ, and they were both baptized into the Church of Christ. Ruth was a faithful member of the Church and loved volunteering her time working as a Sunday school teacher, singing in the choir, and opening her home to anyone that wanted to study the word of God. Many souls were saved at those Tuesday night Bible studies. Ruth worked for Digital Equipment Corporation and retired after 30 years and 3 company turnovers, going from Digital to Compaq to Quantum to Hewlett Packard. Ruth is known for her loving, generous and kind heart. She always went above and beyond to help those in need and she never met a stranger. Once you met her, it wasn't long before you were calling her "mom". She was also known for her superior cooking skills and after eating her food, you would be begging to be adopted too. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Margaret Robinson, a baby brother who died in infancy, a daughter, Michelle Wilcoxson and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Ruth is survived by her spouse, Leo Daugherty, her 6 children, Christi Marciano, Kenneth Daugherty, Wendy (Joey) Dotson, Dawn (Santonyo) Robinson, Katherine (David) Ajose and Michael (Mary) Daugherty, as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth has touched many hearts and positively impacted so many lives. She will be dearly missed.
