Edward "Frank" Givens Obituary

Edward “Frank” Givens, age 84, of Panama City was born December 13, 1936 to James Leslie and Mamie Lee Givens. He grew up in Panama City and in 1954, joined the US Navy, and served for 20 years. In 1958, he married Faye Walters. The years in the Navy, took them to many duty stations and multiple overseas tours, but in 1974, he retired back home to Panama City. They were married for 62 years before Faye went home to be the Lord on April 9, 2021. The separation lasted only 5 months to the day, as they were reunited in Heaven on September 9, 2021. Frank, or “Big Daddy”, as he was known to most people, was by trade an electrician. He learned this trade in the US Navy, and when he retired from the Navy, he worked for the City of Panama City in the same capacity, until his retirement there. Frank loved to garden and could grow just about anything. He also loved fishing and taught most of his grandsons how to fish and throw a net. He was most happy outdoors, tending his garden, feeding the animals or fish in the pond, or simply enjoying God’s creation. Frank’s greatest accomplishments, though, were not of the physical sort. Just after retirement from the Navy, he began to attend Brannonville Baptist Church with his wife and children and one day realized that he was a sinner in need of a Savior. He was saved and soon became a serious student of the Bible. He grew up with nothing and worked hard for everything he ever had, and yet he never held back giving to his family, the Lord’s work, or to people in need. He not only gave money, but he gave of his time, his abilities, and he did whatever he could. He was “Big Daddy” to over 240 boys that came through the boy’s home run by his daughter and son-in-law. Frank gave of his time and substance to these young men, donating the property to build their home, and teaching them various skills and a good work ethic to help give them a good start in life. Frank is survived by: Daughters: Sandie Riddick and grandchildren Daniel & Jen Riddick, Richard & Amy Groover and Anna Riddick; Chrissy & Buddy Maynard and grandchildren Russell & Hannah Maynard, Clay & Lydia Maynard and Aaron & Lydia Maynard; Tricia Givens and grandchildren Elena & Levi Blackburn, Samuel Givens and Nathan Givens. He also has 17 great grand children. He is also survived by one cousin, Wayne Givens, of Panama City, Florida. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Frances Price and his son in law, Dale Riddick. A graveside service will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Greenwood Cemetery.
