Charles Michael Pettit died peacefully Monday afternoon, September 13, 2021 surrounded by his family in Norwalk.

Visitation for Family & Friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. concluding with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, September 19th with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 20th with burial following in the Norwalk Cemetery [please note: the visitation and the Mass will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in NorwalkDirections and times are listed at the bottom of this webpage.]  

Mike requested that those who wished to come and participate in his celebration of life would kindly refrain from wearing black attire.

 

 

 

Charles Michael Pettit Life Story

Charles "Mike" Michael Pettit was summoned home to be with the Savior on Monday, September 13th, 2021. Michael was born on February 28th, 1955, the first son to Charles and Alice (Fitzsenry) Pettit of Norwalk. As a child Mike enjoyed baseball, football as well as being in Boy Scouts, which lead him in his love of fishing, hunting, and camping.  He graduated from Norwalk in 1974 and later worked as a truck driver for Norwalk Public Works Dept until he retired. He was a member of the Teamster Union as well as the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.  He was noble concerning his Irish heritage. He was a gifted mechanic, collected antique powered engines. He provided small engine repair for many residents of Norwalk. And was a concessionaire vendor at many fairs, farmers markets and festivals throughout Iowa serving up his Old Fashion Ice Cream churned on site by single stroke engines, which he proudly displayed and enjoyed talking about with onlookers. Mike enjoyed time spent with family and friends at barbeques, holidays or to cheer on the Hawkeyes.

 

He was proceeded in death by his parents Charles and Alice.  He is survived by his siblings Charlotte of Des Moines, IA;  Mary (Dave Scott) of New Albany, IN; Julia of Algona, IA; Claudia (Nancy Aleccia) of Des Moines, IA; Brian (Candy) of Norwalk, IA and Paula (Scott Nerhus) of Badger, IA. Mike held the title of “Uncle Mike” very proudly, loved his 20 nieces & nephews in addition to his 27 great nieces & nephews.

Mike was a true salt of the earth kind of guy, our gentle giant.  He knew no stranger and loved sharing a tale or two.  Mike was kind and his generosity will live on in our hearts forever.
