Donald Edward “Red” Smith, 75, of Johnston City passed away at 10:50 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2021 at Herrin Hospital. Red was born on January 11, 1946 in San Bernardino, California to Parker and Virginia (Morgan) Smith. He was united in marriage to Patricia Wilhite on July 10, 1971. Together they have shared 50 years of marriage. Red retired having been employed by Maytag for 31 years working in maintenance. He enjoyed playing music, fishing, and going to auctions. Red was of the Christian faith. Red is survived by his wife, Patricia Smith of Johnston City; six children, Kimberly (Billy) Mathews of Carterville, Billie Smith of Kentucky, Brian “Lefty” Smith of Johnston City, Timothy Smith of New Hampshire, Hedy Smith of California and Amy Smith of California; five grandchildren, Drake Mathews, Erran Mathews, Corey Stritzel, Nicole Grant, and Brian Smith; five great-grandchildren, Abigail Smith, Dahlin Smith, Kinlie Mathews, Sarah Nofal, and Allison Smith; one sister, Sharon (Ronnie) Villegas of Washington. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jackie Smith; three brothers, Buddy Arnold, Norman Smith, and Bobby Smith. Private family services will be held at a later date.
