William Carl "Bill" Lewis Obituary

William C. “Bill” Lewis, 91, Carthage, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021. He was born August 10, 1930, in Carthage to the late Richard and Lorraine Lewis. Bill served in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Japan at the end of WWII. He received an Occupational (Japan) Medal along with a WWII Victory Medal. On March 22, 1953, he married Gladys Sheldon. They had two children, David Lewis (wife Sonya) and Valerie Butler, all surviving. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Luke Buzzard (wife Karli), Garrett Buzzard, and Phylicia Lewis; along with two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Nora. Bill was employed by Rocketdyne (Teledyne) in Neosho. After retirement, he was a door greeter at the Carthage Walmart. He was a member of the Carthage Church of the Nazarene. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 pm, Monday, September 20, 2021, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage. Bill will lie in state Friday, September 17, 2021, from 8 am to 5 pm, and Monday, September 20, 2021, from 8 am to 12 pm at Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
