Irene Hampton Jones, 97, passed away in Winston-Salem on September 13, 2021. She was born in Alleghany County on April 22, 1924, to Mahala and Carlie Hampton. After graduating from high school in Sparta, Irene took a job at a defense plant. She then moved to Greensboro, where she retired from the UNCG Student Health Center. Irene was a member of the Eastern Star, an avid gardener, knitter, and crocheter. Irene was preceded in death by sons, Michael Jones and Eric Jones; and siblings, Reid Hampton, Chap Hampton, and Wilma Hampton Phipps. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Kim Jones; grandchildren, Lee Jones and Amy Jones; and brother, Lewis Hampton, of Sparta. The family will have a visitation on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, from 9:00-10:00 AM at Salem Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem, NC, 27106.
