Doris Ross McDaniel was born in Vernon, Texas on May 14, 1932 to the parentage of Arthur Ross and Fannie Jones Ross. Some of you called her, Sis. McDaniel, Cousin Doris, Mrs. McDaniel, or Doris, but to us, she was Aunt Doris. Our mother (Ruby), her sister would say, “Doris go home and take those kids with you”, and she'd say, “that’s what I did”. We were her children and she would say, “I should’ve spanked y’all when y’all were kids laughing the whole time telling the story”. Aunt Doris was full of love that she gave to everyone; people she knew and people she didn't. Her work as a caregiver was second to none, rather as a foster grandparent, volunteer at Parkland or at home instead, she gave her all. Mrs. Royal was her favorite; years after retirement, she continued to visit and check on her until her death which really saddened Aunt Doris.

 

Aunt Doris achieved her GED. She accepted Christ into her life, and was a faithful member of Mountain View Church of Christ under the leadership of Minister J.K. Hamilton.

 

She departed this earthly life on September 7, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, William McDaniel; mother, Fannie Thompson; brother, Robert Ross; sister, Ruby Singletary Joiner; niece, LaVon Singletary Maxwell; great nephew, Norman Anthony Singletary; and nephew-in-law, Floyd Casel.

 

She leaves to mourn, David Singletary (Patsy) of Dallas, Texas; Mark Singletary (Donna) of Sunset, Texas, Ethel Mae Ross of Midland, Texas, Chyrel Singletary-Casel of Lubbock, Texas, along with a host of great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends that loved her dearly.
