Richard Charles Cutshall Obituary

Richard Charles Cutshall, of Greeley, lost his battle to cancer on September 9, 2021. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. He was 85 years old. Richard was born to Lynn and Mary Sophie (Nadolski) Cutshall on September 22, 1935 in Rochester, Minnesota. He was the youngest of four (4) siblings. Richard grew up in Rochester where he enjoyed participating in sports, academics , Boys State and was proud to earn his Eagle Scout badge. After graduating from Rochester High School in 1953, he attended Rochester Junior College where he earned his Associates of Arts degree in Pre-Engineering (1955). He went on to the University of Minnesota where he earned degrees in Bachelor of Science with distinction (1957) and Masters of Science in Aeronautical Engineering (1959). He later attended Medical School, receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1968. He served as Vice-President of his class during Medical School. While at University of Minnesota, Richard met Carole Ann Felber. He quickly recognized his life partner and they married on August 23, 1958. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Richard had a non-traditional career path. Prior to returning to Medical School, he worked for Jet Propulsion Laboratories (JPL) in California. While at JPL he worked on their unmanned lunar orbit projects. It was during this year that his eldest child, Leah, was born. However, missing Minnesota, he returned to Rochester. There he worked for IBM and added three (3) more children to his family (Laura, Libby, John). Following the birth of his 4th child in 1964, he made the remarkable decision to pursue his dream career of becoming a Physician. He completed his education with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1968,followed by a 1 year internship in Greeley, Colorado and then a three (3) year residency at Cook County General Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. When he became a certified radiologist (1973), the family returned to Greeley and Richard became a partner in the Greeley X-Ray Group. One of the greatest pleasures of Richard's life and career was providing service to others. He was a former member and president of the Greeley Rotary Club, he hosted several international foreign exchange students, he organized and helped deliver medical equipment to under-served countries and donated his time and expertise to these regions of the world. Richard was a founding member of Funcadión Doctor Oswaldo Loor giving assistance to the visually impaired in Ecuador. In his many humanitarian trips to Ecuador, Jamaica and Venezuela he provided training on radiology equipment and made life-long friends. Richard had many hobbies and interests. In addition to traveling, he knit, fished, built remote control planes, shingled roofs, sewed, laid bricks, became an airplane pilot, hiked, skied, golfed and worked on his house. Richard had a great sense of humor and would share his quick-witted responses with those around him. His "Dad Jokes" were repeated enough times that his children and grandchildren have memorized them for future generations. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his siblings (Ann, David, and Donald). Richard is survived by his wife, Carole (nee Felber), his children Leah (David) James, Laura Radford, Libby (John) Bagley and John (Catherine Sheridan, fiancee) Cutshall, 7 grandchildren (Taylor, Dylan, Jim, Riley, Avery, Caroline, Sarah) and 1 great-grandchild (Riggs). In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests you perform an act of kindness in memory of "Dr. C." A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 19th, 2021 from 2-5pm at Cazadores Restaurant (2140 35th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado).
