Steven Romero Chavez Bakersfield, California Obituary

Steven Romero Chavez

Steven R. Chavez May 11, 1956 - September 6, 2021 Steve went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2021, with his loving family by his side. He was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA to Gloria and Louis Chavez. He attended Williams Elementary, Washington Jr. High and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1974. There he met and later married his highschool sweetheart, Alma Ornelas Chavez. They were married for 45 years and were blessed with three beautiful daughters. Steve loved them with all his heart! His girls went on to bless their Daddy with eight beautiful grandchildren who quickly became the apples of his eye. After high school Steve learned his trade of upholstery. In 1977, he began working for the City of Bakersfield starting at the Civic Auditorium. When the Rabobank Arena was built, Steve transferred over to General Services and was in charge of the Graffiti Department. He later went on to become the Building Maintenance Supervisor and held his position until he retired in 2014 after 37 years of service. Aside from being a craftsman, an exceptional upholstery worker, a hard working Daddy and husband, Steve's favorite hobby was fishing. His beloved Twin Lakes is where he and his Compa Oscar fished together for over 41 years. The last 20 years they enjoyed fishing with their wives who quickly became their favorite fishing partners. Steve and his family attended New Life Church for over 26 years. It was at this church where Steve's life was forever changed. He served in many ministries, but his most loved was working in the Marriage Ministry. Sports was another favorite of Steve's. He was a die hard Los Angeles Lakers fan, faithful Minnesota Vikings fan and hardcore San Francisco Giants fan. If he was not sporting his purple and gold attire, he was rocking his black and orange. Steve was fun and always a good time to be with. He enjoyed listening to all types of music and loved to "Rock Out!" If he was not singing, he was humming or whistling a tune. He loved to sing and dance with the girls, grandkids and especially with his sister Susie, who he lovingly called Googie. If you did not sing, Steve would serenade you until you gave in. Steve had a big personality with a sense of humor to match. He had nicknames for everyone, including himself. to many he was "Uncle Breeze" or just "Breeze" because he was so cool, is what he would say. He brought so much energy and was never shy about who he was or what he liked. His smile was genuine and his laugh unforgettable. He always gave big hugs with a tight squeeze that made everyone laugh. He was easy to talk to and a great listener. This was a plus, especially living with all girls. It was one of the many qualities that made him an awesome Girl Dad. The love, compassion and dedication Steve had for Alma and the girls was unmeasurable. He worked hard and sacrificed so much for his family and never once complained. Steve was not only Alma's love and Daddy to the girls, he was Papa! A name that melted his heart. When it came to Papas he was the proudest, the coolest, thoughtful and most loving Papa you will ever know. There was nothing he would not do for his baby's babies, no matter how old. Steve's dedication and faith in the Lord helped him become the Godly man he was. It helped guide him to live the crazy beautiful life he had. The changes and positive choices he made helped him pave a legacy he now leaves behind. We are forever grateful for all his hard work, his love, support and the time we had with him. Our lives are forever changed, but the love we have for him is the same. It is so hard to forget someone that gave you so much to remember. We all miss you so much and love you more than you will ever know. Steve is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Alma, daughters, Sophia, Son-in-law, Carlos, Stephanie, her Fiance, Joshua and Alyssa. His Grandchildren, Roman, Carlos Rene, Andrew, Xavier, Jocelyn, Steven, Lilliana and Sebastian who all loved their Papa and Poppy, a title he was so proud to have. Steve also leaves behind his brothers, Michael and Louis (Marisol), his sisters, Maria, Debbie, and Susie and his Compa, Oscar Barron. He had many nieces and nephews who loved him very much and will miss their Uncle Breeze.
