Willie Amos Merrick Obituary

Willie Amos Merrick (81) was called home to our Lord on Friday September 10th, 2021. Willie was born in Princeton, Kentucky on November 18th, 1939. He had 8 siblings and at a young age developed a strong character and work ethic.

He married Wilma (Goodman) in 1965 after only two weeks of dating. Their love and dedication to one another continues to inspire all those that were fortunate enough to witness their loving relationship. They were married for over 56 years.

Willie worked for Ford Motor Company for 31 years. He was a Master Mason at the Wayne Masonic Lodge #112. Willie enjoyed boating, fishing, watching old westerns, riding his tractor, working in his barn, and Detroit Tigers baseball. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and was the epitome of a “family man”. He was adored by his children and helped raise his two grandchildren, Amanda and Anthony. He could fix just about anything and was always the first one you would call if you needed help. Willie had the best sense of humor and was always the person to crack a great joke. His smile was infectious and you always left happier after a conversation with Willie. He put his faith and trust in God always and was the most positive person.

Willie is survived by his wife Wilma Merrick; two children Elizabeth (Merrick) Sullivan and her husband David; Wayne Merrick and his wife Sue; his four grandchildren Amanda Mancini and her husband Paul; Anthony deChavez; Holly Nichols; Woody Johnson; his three great grandchildren Paul, Luca, and Mateo Mancini; and the rest of his family and friends.

Willie is preceded in death by his parents William Henry and Henry Lovie Reddick Merrick; his brothers William Merrick; Norris Merrick; Richard Merrick; Bob Merrick; Lucian Merrick; Jimmie Merrick; Gene Merrick; and his sister Mary (Merrick) Armstrong.

Willie’s family and friends will gather on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, from 2:00-8:00pm at Borek Jennings Funeral Home. His Community Farewell will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 11:00am (10:00am gathering) at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel.
