A Funeral Mass for Norberta De Armas of Athens is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at St. Edwards Education and Ministry Center with Father Nolan Lowry officiating. Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens. Norberta passed away on September 10, 2021 in Tyler. Norberta Candida (Martinez) de Armas was born June 6, 1945 in Acambay, Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico the daughter of Amador Martinez and Trinidad (Alcantara) Martinez. She was a member of St Edward’s Catholic Church and was known for always praying. Mama Berta enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, and taking care of plants. She was also a loving mother, grandmother and sister who will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Aureliano Martinez; daughter, Maria del Carmen Armas; grandson, Aureliano Armas, Jr. and four sisters. Mama Berta is survived by her seven children, Domingo Armas and wife Lucia of Athens, Paula Castro and husband Carlos of Palmdale, CA, Teresa Morales and husband Victor of Athens, Magdalena Armas and husband Ruperto of San Fernando, CA, Armador Antonio Armas and wife Marcela of San Ferando, CA, David Armas and wife Lisa of San Fernando, CA, Luis Armas and wife Rosario of Athens; five siblings, Maria Martinez, Sotelo Martinez, Antonia Martinez, Clara Martinez, Geronima Martinez; twenty five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens. Fue una madre, abuela y hermana amorosa la cual extrañarán todos los que ella conocía y amaba. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres; su esposo, Aureliano Martinez; hija, María del Carmen Armas; nieto, Aureliano Armas, Jr. y cuatro hermanas. A Mama Berta le sobreviven sus siete hijos, Domingo Armas y esposa Lucía de Athens, Paula Castro y esposo Carlos de Palmdale, CA, Teresa Morales y esposo Víctor de Athens, Magdalena Armas y esposo Ruperto de San Fernando, CA, Armador Antonio Armas y esposa Marcela de San Ferando, CA, David Armas y esposa Lisa de San Fernando, CA, Luis Armas y esposa Rosario de Athens; cinco hermanos, María Martínez, Sotelo Martínez, Antonia Martínez, Clara Martinez, Geronima Martínez; veinticinco nietos; once bisnietos y numerosos sobrinos y sobrinas. El velorio se llevará a cabo de 5 a 7:00 p.m. con un Rosario a las 7:00 p.m. el martes 14 de septiembre de 2021 en la funeraria Hannigan Smith en Athens.
