Edward Leland White

Edward Leland White, (Ed), age 91, passed away on September 10, 2021, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. Reverend Paul Phipps from The Southern Baptist Church of Rush Springs will officiate. Burial will be under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home and Cremation Services. No graveside services will be held. Interment will be at the Rush Springs Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the Chapel from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Helmer and wife Jane Snow White. On August 23, 1951 he and Jane were married. Survivors include three children and their spouses: Phillip and wife, Rita, of Smithville, Missouri, Carl and wife, Sue, of Owassa, Oklahoma and Linda Ford and husband David, of Edmond, Oklahoma. Eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren further continue his legacy. Ed was born March 27, 1930 at Meade, Kansas to Fred and Elsie White. Ed, also known as Leland, moved with his mother to Burlington, Kansas. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1949. Ed was a Korean War Veteran serving from 1951-1953 in the United States Army. Ed began working for the Gas Service Company in 1950 at Wichita, Kansas as a meter reader. After graduation from Friends University in 1959, the company transferred him to Saint Joseph, Missouri as Chief Clerk, and later promoted him to Office Manager. He retired in 1988 after 38 years with the company. Ed had many hobbies to occupy his retirement years. He was a ham radio operator, played guitar and sang jam sessions, enjoyed photography and technology. Ed and Jane traveled many years to the Texas Valley to spend the winters. They made many new friends. Ed and Jane were faithful members of Wyatt Park Baptist Church for thirty years while residing in Saint Joseph, Missouri and later members of The Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs, Oklahoma. Ed served as a deacon for 50 years. Both Ed and Jane were revered by their children and grandchildren. Ed had a personality that could make a friend from a stranger. His humor and laughter could light up a room. He set an example for all those who knew him by living a life grounded in Christian values and dedicated to the well-being of his family.
