Robert Lee Ashley Obituary

Robert Lee “Rob” Ashley of Independence, MO, a man who could always bring a smile to anyone’s face and light up an entire room with his presence, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021. He was 57 years old. Rob was born on February 10, 1964 in Independence, Missouri, to Donald and Barbara Ashley. He graduated from Van Horn High School in the class of 1982. On April 20, 1991, Rob married the love of his life, Rudel Maruskin and to this union, a daughter was born: Alexiss “Lexi” Rae. Rob’s pride and joy was his lovely daughter, and he was looking out for Alexiss long before she was ever born. He ensured that she was not named after a bug, otherwise you may be talking to Cricket Lee, instead of Alexiss Rae! Although Lexi was the only child, Rob treated his dogs as if they were his other kids. He was a great husband, and father who loved his family fiercely. His number one priority in life was to spoil his girls and make sure that they were always happy, and they never had to want for anything. Rob and Rudel were true soulmates. They were so close that they could finish each other’s sentences, no matter what the conversation topic would be. Now, that is indeed a match made in Heaven! Rob and Rudel were viewed as a perfect couple by those who had the honor of meeting them. Rob lived in Independence for the entirety of his life and worked as a machine operator for 18 dedicated years at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. Rob just loved being out in the world doing something, whether it was antiquing (a.k.a. junking), watching paranormal tv shows or driving to New Orleans for a few days. Rob enjoyed his big lifted trucks and grilling out on the back patio, be it rain or shine. He was a fun person who was always the life of the party wherever he went. He was a great friend and never knew a stranger. To know Rob, was to love him, as he was such a memorable man who touched the lives and hearts of everyone he met and always gave the best hugs that will be missed by so many. Rob is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Rudel Ashley; daughter, Alexiss Ashley; brothers, Ronald K. Barney, Bill Miller and Donald Ashley, Jr.; and mother, Barbara Ashley. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rick Barney; and father, Donald Ashley, Sr. A visitation to honor Rob will be held on Friday, September 17, from 12-2:00 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at 2:00 p.m., both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th.
