Walter Joseph Gilding

June 15, 1927 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan September 8, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta Walter Gilding of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the age of 94 years. Walter was born in Saskatoon, SK, on June 15, 1927. Walter graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Batchelor of Arts in Economics and a Batchelor of Commerce in 1951. He joined the Canadian Army in 1944 when he was seventeen and was stationed in CFB Valcartier in Quebec. He moved to Calgary, AB, in 1954 where he met and married E. Shirley Holgate in 1955. He worked for Stearns-Roger in Calgary and Denver for thirty years. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion 285 and volunteered with them for many years, in addition to assisting churches in Calgary and Denver with their financials. Walter enjoyed curling, golf, pool, ice skating and working in his garden. He will be most remembered for his humor, wisdom and humility. Walter is survived by his son Peter, son and daughter-in-law John and Matilda, and daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Scott Digert; five grandchildren, Emma, Tristan, Michael, William and Stephen. He is also survived by his sisters, Valerie Sedman and Maureen Jordan. Walter was predeceased by his wife Shirley in 2018. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.
