Kay Wohlenhaus Atlantic, Iowa Obituary

Kay Wohlenhaus

Kay Wohlenhaus, 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Hansen House in Harlan. Kay was born in Nodaway, Iowa, to Wayne and Leola (Northup) O’Riley on April 27, 1939. After graduating from Griswold High School in 1956, Kay worked at Young's Cafe and attended junior college in Creston, eventually working full-time at Walnut Grove Feed Company. During high school, Kay met the love of her life, Ron Wohlenhaus, and the two sweethearts were married on February 14, 1960 at St. John’s Church of Christ in Lyman. Together they farmed east of Lyman for over 4 decades until moving to Atlantic in 2013. Kay treasured life. While she enjoyed crafting, playing bridge with friends, baking, golfing, bowling and treasure-hunting at antique malls, nothing compared to simply spending time with grandkids and family. Her “family” extended well beyond biological lines, and she was fondly known as “Grandma Kay” to all who knew her. She was a true model of how to love one’s neighbor and an example of Christ’s love in the many lives she touched. It was clear to all who knew her that she loved God with all of her heart, soul and mind. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ron; daughter, Tammy (Jerry) Wyman and children, Brooke (Kelly) Dunn, Brandi (Cody) Eckles, Terra (Cameron) Burt, Josh (Jen) Wyman, Heath (Stephanie) Kelly; son, Mike (Jody) Wohlenhaus and children, Quinn and Connor; sister, Connie (Dick) Estling of Ocala, Florida; brothers, Bill O’Riley of West Des Moines, Butch (Becky) O’Riley of Waynesville, Missouri, and Tom (Sallie) O’Riley of Spiro, Oklahoma; 17 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends. Kay is preceded in death by her parents. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25th at First Church of Christ in Atlantic.
