Obituary

Coy Chapman, age 95, of Palestine, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, the 11th day of September 2021.  He was the last of eight children to join the Lord in Heaven.  Mr. Chapman was born in Chandler, Texas, on the 29th day of October 1925, to parents William Franklin Chapman and Nellie Shelton Chapman.

Mr. Chapman served in the United States Navy during World War II.  He met Opalene Hoffman who became his wife and best friend for over 72 years.  He always enjoyed spoiling her and buying her gifts.  He was a loving husband and father who raised his two daughters to carry on a legacy of hard work and devotion to family. He retired after a long career from Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor in 1987.

Mr. Chapman took great pride in his home where he enjoyed working in his garden and tending to his yard.  He always found delight in meeting with his friends for coffee every morning and talking about world events.  He was a longtime member of Crockett Road Church of Christ and knew that his physical death would not be the end and he waited for the day the Lord would call him home.

Mr. Chapman joins in Heaven his parents William and Nellie Chapman; son-in-law, Keith Jenkins; sister, Oleta Gilley; brothers, Brian Chapman, Ervin Chapman, Ozzie Chapman, Jake Chapman, Adolphus Chapman, and his twin brother, Troy Chapman, who passed away a few months after birth.

Mr. Chapman leaves behind his devoted wife, Opalene Chapman; daughters, Debra Cole and husband Kim, and Donna Jenkins, all of Palestine; grandchildren, Kerri Cole Jordon and husband Kelly, Jason Cole and wife Jessica, Lyle Jenkins, Ryan Jenkins, and Paul Jenkins.  He also leaves behind his great grandchildren, Ruby Kate Jordon, Cole Jordon, Hudson Cole, Norah Cole, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to rising COVID cases and hospitalizations in the area, the family will have a private funeral service to celebrate Mr. Chapman’s life on Monday, the 13th day of September 2021, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Ben Rhone officiating.  Interment will follow in Frankston City Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Kim Cole, Jason Cole, Kelly Jordon, Lyle Jenkins, Ryan Jenkins, and Paul Jenkins.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be directed to The Alzheimer’s Association-Dallas & Northeast Texas Chapter Office, 3001 Knox Street, Ste 200, Dallas, TX 75205, or a charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Marlin Barnett and Clara Campbell with B & B Caregivers, Heart to Heart Hospice and staff, Maria Luna, and Eartha with the Veterans Affairs for the excellent care they provided to Mr. Chapman.

Funeral services for Coy Chapman are in care of Rhone Funeral Home, 3900 S. State Highway 19, Palestine, Texas.
