Margaret Celia Dickson Hamilton Obituary

It is with sadness, but appreciation for a long life, well lived, that we announce the passing of Margaret Celia (Read) Dickson Hamilton, on September 11, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Baie Verte, NB, on December 6, 1924, to the late Frank and Celestia (Trenholm) Read and was the loving spouse to late husbands, Lloyd Dickson and Douglas Hamilton.  

Before marriage, she worked at Eaton’s in Moncton, then was a stay-at-home mom for 19 years.  She then worked for the K-Mart (office) then joined Tower’s Department Store where she was Inventory Control Manager for 17 years. She was an active member of the Carleton-Kirk United Church, a member of the U.C.W. Mary Neal Unit. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and playing cards and was a volunteer at the West Side Food Bank for 16 years. She was very devoted to her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.  

She is survived by her sons, Vaughan, Terrence (Janice), James (Pam Fogarty) and Christopher  (Frances) Dickson; daughters, Julie Dickson (Mike Sullivan) and Kathryn Dickson (Duncan  Houston); stepsons, Ian Hamilton and Glen (Clare) Hamilton; 12 grandchildren, Dr. Mark  Dickson, Sarah, Gardner, Christopher, Daniel, David, Celia, Roy, Summer, Katie, James,  Michael; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Brenton (Faye) Read; sister, Mary Goodwin; as well as  several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

In addition to her parents and two spouses, she is predeceased by her daughter-in-law Sibylla; brothers, Arthur, Rueben, Harvey and Vaughan Read, sisters, Irene Simpson and Mildred Blair; and sisters-in-law, Kay & Irene Read, Irene Hamilton and Doris Cudmore.  

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, no visitation will take place. A funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 1 pm. Interment will take place in Baie Verte Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations in her memory to the Carleton Kirk United Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
