Leonard Francis Len Obituary

Leonard Francis Len was born on August 26, 1932, in Bay City, Michigan, and passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2021, from heart failure. He joins his wife, Marian Elaine Len who has preceded him in death on February 20, 2020. Leonard and Marian enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage and traveling on their boat, from the Great Lakes to Florida. They enjoyed years at the Old Club at Harsens Island and Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida. Leonard was the founder, owner and president of Len Industries based in Leslie, Michigan. He began his career as a production inspector with General Motors in 1951 and was laid off three months later. Throughout the next phase of his career, he worked everything from sweeping the floors and cleaning, operating lathes, mill surface grinders, and the precision jig bore, and being a manager for such companies as Wilson Engineering, Wickes Corporation, Jameson Machine Company, Bridgeport Tool Company and Jameson Corporation until he set sail on his own. In 1970, with 20 years of experience and a dream in his heart, Len bought Butler Industries in Leslie and changed the name to Len Industries - after all, Len wanted a bigger boat. Len Industries became a provider of precision machine components used in the automotive, industrial and aircraft industries. Len Industries’ trademarks were loyalty and commitment. Len’s dedication to life long learning and progressive thinking created programs that paid for employee tuition, brought classes to his facility, and donated money to help build the public library in Leslie. Along with his wife, Len is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Anna (Mularz) Len; son, Robert Ernest Len; and all of his siblings. He is survived by his four daughters and their families: Carol Elaine Kleinert, her children: Micah Kleinert, Brooke Kleinert, and Josie Schafer, and her grandchildren, Hannah Kleinert, Brayden Kleinert, and Benjamin Kleinert. Janet Len Rundblad and her children, George (Tina Figurski) Rundblad and Len (Alana Stramowski) Rundblad. Susan Marie (Les) Drake, her children: Diondra (Nicholas) Hindman, Alandra (Eric) Szandzik, Leslie Paul Drake and Elliott Drake, and her grandchildren: Adriana Hindman, Marina Hindman and Sophie Szandzik. And Lynda Len and her daughter, Alexis Shellberg. The family will welcome friends and loved ones on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. at Vickers Leslie Funeral Home located at 109 N. Church Street in Leslie, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Leslie Outreach, P.O. Box 215, Leslie, MI 49251.
