Donald "D.R." Ray Rakestraw Sr.

Mr. Donald Ray Rakestraw, Sr. “D.R.”, age 87, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021. A native of Thomaston, Georgia, Mr. Rakestraw was born on May 5, 1934 the son of the late Paul William and Zoni Wilson Rakestraw. He was a member of the Roopville Road Baptist Church. Preceded in death by sister, Margie Mae Birckle and his brother David Rakestraw. Survivors include his beloved wife, Mrs. Sylvia Whitten Rakestraw. His son, Don Rakestraw, (Sherry). Two granddaughters, Bethany Rakestraw and Amy Rakestraw Wagner (Jordan) and step-grandchildren, Shawn Scharnikow and Brandi Griffin (Sean). Two step-great grandchildren, Waylen Griffin and Palmer Griffin. One sister, Vera Mae Ferguson (Leon). One brother, Billy Jeff Rakestraw. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Rakestraw will be conducted on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 3 p.m. from the Roopville Road Baptist Church with his pastor, Dr. Stephen Peeples officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home. On Monday, Mr. Rakestraw will be carried to the church to lie-in-state from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour. Bellamy Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Mr. Rakestraw.
