Ms. Barbara Jean DeNome Graniteville, South Carolina Obituary

Ms. Barbara Jean DeNome

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Barbara “Barb” Jean DeNome, 66, of Aiken, SC. She passed away unexpectedly from a stroke on 08 September 2021. She had a strong faith and would tell all to take solace that she is now with the Lord. Barbara was an exceptionally devoted mother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her loving companion, Benjamin Stacy Thompson, her son Christopher (Meredith) DeNome, her daughter Sarah DeNome Madras, her grandchildren Paige and Samuel DeNome whom she loved so dearly, her sisters Peggy (David) Wilson and Linda (Tom) George, by many nieces, nephews and cousins, and too many cherished friends to name.   Barbara was born to parents Clayton and Dorothy Teets, in Ellwood City, PA, and was always proud of her “western PA” roots. She moved to Tampa, FL, to raise her family and this is where she discovered her passion for teaching and love of students. She worked tirelessly as a Special Education Teacher for 26 years, the last twelve in Aiken County. She will forever be remembered for being a steadfast, loyal advocate for all her students.   Barbara felt strongly about helping people especially those who were less fortunate. In retirement she filled this need to help by volunteering her leadership skills and time with the St. Vincent de Paul of St. Mary’s church, Aiken, SC. She made deep, impactful, and lasting friendships with many but especially those in the Aiken community. Her warmth, generosity, and kindness will be missed dearly by all but especially by those whose lives she touched. Barbara loved her church, hiking in the mountains, antique shopping, finding a bargain (she loved a bargain), and spending time with the extended Thompson family who she loved more than words can express, as they did her.   Per her wishes, Barbara will be cremated and her ashes spread across her favorite hiking trail in The Blue Ridge Mountains. Services are being finalized and will be announced. In lieu of flowers Barbara requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the food pantry of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Mary’s church. Memorial services will be held in Barbara’s honor on Wednesday, September 22, at 11:00 AM, Saint Mary’s historic church,125 Park Ave. SE, Aiken, with a reception to follow at Saint Mary’s Mother Teresa reception hall and gardens,125 Union St. SE, Aiken.
