Evelyn McKinney Weekley Obituary

Evelyn McKinney Weekley passed away September 7, 2021 in the early morning at home next to her loving husband, Joe.

Due to public health precautions and with heavy hearts, the family has decided there will be no visitation or funeral at this time. The family will hold a private service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Talbotton, GA at a later date.

Evelyn was born on September 1, 1942 in Talbotton, Georgia to the late Worth and Eleanor O’Neal McKinney. She graduated from Talbot County High School in 1960, at which time she moved to Columbus where she attended Perry Business School. Evelyn met her husband, Joe, in 1961 and they were soon married. Together, they worked as a team in life, buying a house, raising a family, and growing a successful and respected business. She volunteered at church most of her life, coordinating and supporting events and assisting with preparing huge banquets. She was a stay-at-home mom to Scott and Dawn until they were in high school. At that point, she sought to continue her education to become a paralegal for 20-plus years. She enjoyed helping so many families through her position and assisting with adoptions, wills, and closing estates. She traveled extensively and had plans and wishes to do so much more. After retiring, she and Joe enjoyed their time together, hosting events in their home with family and friends. Her declining health slowly confined her to her home, but she thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the many visits and calls through the years.

She was the glue for many, her wisdom provided guidance to anyone who asked, and she loved all of her family and friends. One of her memorable beliefs: Anything that happened this morning, an hour ago, or even a minute ago — “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” She was a firm believer in God, a follower of Jesus Christ our Savior, and served Him throughout her life.

Her last birthday was a good day with family, friends, loving cards, and phone calls. When someone passes, we all lose something. All the stories from yesteryear, the wisdom, and the love will stay with us. Pass it to others and let it touch someone else.

The family invites you to share any wonderful memories you have of Evelyn, special days, or how she touched your life. Please write them down in the upcoming days, weeks, months, and years. The family thanks each of you for your loving support in their time of grief.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanette Foster. She is survived by her husband, Joe of 59 years; son, Scott Weekley; daughter, Dawn Weekley; grandchildren, Lydia Marino, Zachary Weekley, Elizabeth Weekley, and Olivia Weekley; great grandchildren McKinney and Luke; niece and nephews, Patsy Moore (Danny), Don Foster (Fran), Charles Foster; and many friends.

If you wish to honor Evelyn, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: O’Neal Volunteer Fire Department, 195 Ellerslie Highway, Talbotton, GA 31827; Olive Branch United Methodist Church at in care of Linda Lucas, Treasurer, 284 West Howard Rd. Talbotton, GA 31827; or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
