Obituary

Elease McCord Williams is the daughter of the late Beulah McCord Pickett. She was born on August 23,1931, in Bishopville, South Carolina.

As a young child she grew up with her siblings: Magnolia, Beulah, Pearl, Nellie, and Furt. She was the youngest of the bunch but she was the protector of the bunch. She was the feisty one and the one who would look out for the others. Growing up she attended St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Camden, South Carolina with her family. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.

Elease continued to grow, mature, and blossom into a beautiful young woman who met the love of her life, Clarence Williams. After courting for a while, they married. They were happily married for many years until his untimely passing. This union bought a beautiful bounty of children: Ellen, Mary, Shaw, Diane, Clarence Jr, Clyde, and Donald. The happy couple traveled throughout the state before they made Camden their permanent home. Elease and Clarence continued to flourish and become outstanding members of the community. They were always willing to give a ride or to lend a helping hand. Mrs. Elease worked as a nurse’s assistant for many years. After she retired from nursing, she worked as a seamstress at Skyline, also known as Tic Tack, for many years. In addition to these careers, she worked in the church. Elease, and children, attended Jerusalem Stuckey Baptist Church with her husband for many years. While a member at Jerusalem, she served as the leader of the Sun Beam Choir, served as a deaconess, and a dedicated choir member. She also served on numerous committees, organizations, programs, and the like. Her love for church never wavered even as she grew older.

Mrs. Williams transitioned from Jerusalem Stuckey Baptist Church to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church to be closer to home and family. Once she became a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, she dug her heels in and went to work. She joined the Mass Choir, Gospel Choir, served as a deaconess, and assisted with Food for Soul. She attended weekly bible study every Wednesday evening. This child of God loved the Lord and loved singing for Him, to Him, and praising him. She would travel with her church choir to other churches to participate in programs or she would go alone. If she was asked to render a selection, she was always happy and delighted to do so. Elease attended church faithfully until she was no longer able. As Elease’s health started to decline, her love for the Lord did not. She loved her pastor, Rev. Wise, and she spoke very highly of him often.

Elease enjoyed decorating and celebrating the holidays. During the Christmas holidays she would have lights around her house, on the fence around the house, on the trees outside of the house, on the horse statue outside of the house; you name it and she decorated it. In addition to decorating for the holidays, she baked sweet potato pies during the holidays. When she offered you a slice of pie, she would give you the whole pie. Some of the young men in the neighborhood would ask for a slice of that delicious pie so they could get a whole one.

Her favorite pass time was working in her yard. Often times you could hear her singing gospel songs while she planted flowers and pulled weeds from around her plants. Elease would spend hours working in her yard, only to stop for a coke break. The yard was her other happy place.

Elease was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, and three children; Clarence Jr, Shaw Ann, and Donald.

She leaves to cherish her memory three loving daughters, Ellen Nelson, Lugoff, SC; Mary Crowell, Detroit, MI; Diane (Richard) Miller, Rembert, SC; one dedicated and devoted son, Clyde (Doris) Williams, Columbia, SC; eleven granddaughters, Jonicah Williams, Millicent (Donald)Alexander, Tammy Nelson, Taryn Crowell, Tanginika Miller, Rikilah Miller, Regina Miller, Sonya Cauthen, Latoya Williams, Shemariah Farmer, and Danita Farmer; four grandsons: Darryl (Stephanie) Nelson, Byron (Octavia) Crowell, Jr., Terrance Williams, and Clifford (Tanesha) Farmer.  Elease enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren and her twenty-eight great grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Pearl Drakeford and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
