Dorothy Jane Byers

Dorothy Jane Byers, age 96, passed away on September 9, 2021. She was born on January 11, 1925 to Frank and Theo Hawkins in Toledo, Ohio. Her dear husband, Richard, brother Frank, sister Ruth Heldt and infant twin sister Doris preceded her in death. Dorothy “Dottie” graduated from Scott High School (1943) and the University of Toledo (1947). Dick and Dottie met at the University of Toledo and were faithful Rocket fans. Dorothy was a long-time member at Collingwood Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for 20 years. She also belonged to the Ursula Wolcott-Black Swamp Chapter of the DAR and was a Chi Omega. Dottie was a life member the University of Toledo Alumni Association and served on the Golden Alumni Committee. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Nancy Clabaugh; grandchildren, Wendy Fischer (Chris) and Jason Clabaugh; three great grandsons, Ryan and Jacob Fischer, and Justin Clabaugh; and two great granddaughters, Madison and Brooklyn Clabaugh. Her family brought great joy into her life. She was grateful for many kind and caring friends and neighbors. Visitation will be held at Collingwood Presbyterian Church, 2108 Collingwood Blvd, Toledo, OH 43620 on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Funeral services will be held following the visitation at 11:00 am. Masks will be required for those in attendance. Burial will follow at Historical Wood Lawn Cemetery. The family suggest memorial tributes to Collingwood Presbyterian Church or the University of Toledo Alumni Association. Arrangements by Walker Funeral Homes (419-841-2422). Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. I wish our mom’s could of gotten together more at West Park Place. I know my mother cherished all of her friends and her family which is why she always told me “I’ve had a wonderful life”. She will be greatly missed. 🙏🏻
