Rex Hasbrouck Jones Obituary

December 22, 1932 ~ September 7, 2021

Rex Hasbrouck Jones was born December 22, 1932, in Sioux City, Iowa to Wesley Louis Jones and Alice Lorine (Hasbrouck) Jones of Mapleton, Iowa. He graduated from Mapleton High School and proceeded to Iowa State University where he graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He married Marilyn Lou Leonard on August 21, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Mapleton. Following veterinary school, Rex opened a practice in Moorhead, Iowa where he also was a member of the school board, served as Mayor, and coached a men’s fast pitch softball team. He joined the Twin Valley Veterinary Clinic in Dunlap, Iowa in 1971. In 1977, Rex left veterinary practice and started a career in veterinary pharmaceuticals for Syntex Agribusiness in Des Moines, Iowa. He also worked for Intervet in Millsboro, Delaware and was the Chief Operating Officer of NOBL Laboratories in Sioux Center, Iowa until his retirement in 1997. In retirement, he lived in Mapleton, Iowa, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and returned to Dunlap, Iowa in 2015. Rex enjoyed playing bridge with his favorite card partner and wife of 66 years, Marilyn.  He enjoyed sports and celebrated every goal, hit, or basket watching his children and grandchildren play.  If it was summer, Rex was often golfing with family and friends or watching his St. Louis Cardinals play baseball.

Honoring his memory are his wife Marilyn Leonard Jones; his children, Lyn Mari Hanigan and her husband Richard Joseph Hanigan of Dunlap, Iowa, Kris Jones Clark of Atlanta, GA, and Rex Leonard Jones and his wife Cynthia Burkhalter Jones of Flower Mound, Texas. He is also honored by his seven grandchildren: Teri Hanigan Swenson, Joseph Richard Hanigan, Julie Hanigan Elder, Wesley Steven Clark, Dalton Ryan Clark, Douglas Reese Jones, and Kelsey Elizabeth Jones. In addition, he has nine great grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his father Wesley Jones (August 25, 1970) and his mother Alice Jones (July 31, 2008).
