Ralph Peter Witzig, 81, of Jensen Beach Florida, passed away on Sunday September 5th at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart. Ralph was the son of the late Paul and Anne (Tomasch) Witzig and spent most of his young life in Englewood New Jersey. He graduated from Dwight Morrow High School and went on to earn a degree in Food Science from Rutgers University in 1962. Ralph’s college years were filled with many happy memories with his fraternity brothers at Alpha Sigma Phi, who he remained close to throughout his life. In 1962, he graduated with a degree in Food Science. He met the love of his life, Marianne Schock Witzig, while in college and they married shortly after his college graduation. He worked for Hunt Wesson foods in New Jersey and California for two years before getting his dream position in Product Development for General Foods where he worked on multiple products and received patents for his innovative work. In 1975, he moved his growing family to Miami Florida where he was Director of Menu Development for Burger King Corporations for over 20 years. While with Burger King, he led the team in the development of a chicken product and even named his new product “Chicken Tenders.” His hobbies included traveling (especially meeting friends in Vegas and Biloxi), coin collecting, creating his own eBay business and spending time with his family. Ralph is survived by his wife Marianne of 59 years; his brother Paul Witzig (Astrid) of Nidderau, Germany; children Betsy Driest of Lake Worth Florida, Bill Witzig (Joanne) of Nashua, New Hampshire and Melanie Banack (Jeffrey) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and his grandchildren Amanda Witzig, Katie Yost (Jordan), Connor Driest, Sarah Witzig, Abby Driest, Haley Driest, Emma Dettbarn, Alex Banack and Matthew Witzig.
