Thomas Eugene Trombley Obituary

Thomas Eugene Trombley, age 76, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021, surrounded by his family at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw. Tom was born in Saginaw, on July 8, 1945, son of the late Charles and Ellen (Haske) Trombley. As a boy, he attended St. Elizabeth School in Reese, and later graduated from Reese High School with the Class of 1963. He had a strong work ethic and, as a young man, delivered newspapers for the Saginaw News. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. He graduated from Naval Station Great Lakes on November 22, 1963; the day President Kennedy was assassinated. Tom, a Vietnam-era veteran, was a RM3 Radioman Third Class, serving in multiple locations, including on the USS Intrepid and at the U.S. Naval Station at Iceland. Following his honorable discharge, Tom returned home and met and married Mary Kathryn Kurecka on October 11, 1969, in Saginaw, at St. Mary’s Cathedral. She survives him. Together, they celebrated fifty-one years of marriage and raised four children. Tom held the position of Buyer at Morley Brothers and later at Assembly Technology and Test (formerly Wilson Machine Division). He retired in October 2008. He was quick-witted with a playful sense of humor. He will be remembered for being dependable, always putting his family first, and his appreciation for the simple things in life. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and following Reese Rocket athletics. He loved the music of the 60’s and was always interested in the study of American history. An ideal day for Tom would be cruising down Old Route 66 and listening to the Oldies in search of a distant place he had read about in a history book. He was a devout Catholic and life-long parishioner of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. Also left to cherish his memory are his children, Michelle (Jeffrey) Schluckbier of Vassar; Matthew Trombley of Reese; Kristina (Michael) Tanner of Bay City; and Daniel (Kathryn) Trombley of Alexandria, MN; and six grandchildren, Kara Schluckbier, Carly Schluckbier, Allison Trombley, Jacob Trombley, Joshua Tanner, and Jenna Tanner. Also surviving are his brother, Donald (Joanne) Trombley of Spring Lake; and brother and sisters-in-laws Marlene Trombley of Reese; Donald (Karen) Kurecka of Rochester Hills; Kenneth (Janet) Kurecka, Michael (Pamela) Kurecka, and Thomas Kurecka, all of Saginaw; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Henry and Margaret Kurecka, his infant granddaughter, Faith Trombley, his brother, Richard Trombley, and his sister, Sharon Trombley. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2021, from the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. Father Alberto Vargas will officiate with Committal Services to follow in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery. Full Military Graveside Honors will be presented by the Reese American Legion Post #139. Tom’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street in Reese on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Liturgy. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
