<p>Monty L Miller, loving husband to Kathleen, father to Joseph, Stephanie, Danielle, and grandfather &lsquo;pa&rsquo; to Jason, Aubrey, Braeden, Isabella and Gabriela left us on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.</p> <p>Monty was born in Osceola, IA on August 11, 1950, the second of three children of Leo P (Bud) Miller and Elsie Lucille Miller (n&eacute;e Patterson). Bud and Lucille moved their family to Henderson, NV. in 1955, where Monty attended Henderson schools until his junior year at Basic High School. Monty returned to Iowa with his family and graduated from Murray High School in 1968.</p> <p>After a semester at Iowa State University, Monty was drafted into the Army, where he was sworn in on January 20, 1969. He was always proud of being sworn in by simulcast with the inauguration of Richard Nixon as president.&nbsp; Monty served in both the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.</p> <p>Upon leaving the Army, Monty spent a year in Southern California before returning to Iowa to attend college. He met his wife, Kathleen Carroll, at Southwestern Community College and after a whirlwind romance they eloped on Friday August 23 and started college the following Monday.&nbsp; Monty graduated from Grandview College with a degree in journalism.&nbsp; During their college years, Monty and Kathleen had two children, Joseph, and Stephanie, followed a few years later by Danielle.&nbsp;</p> <p>Monty always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a drive to succeed. From Iowa, the family moved to Louisiana, Missouri and back to Iowa, before being transferred back to Southern Nevada in 1993.&nbsp; After 25 years in the insurance business, Monty opened a paralegal document company where his clients soon became friends.&nbsp;</p> <p>Monty passed away at Desert Springs Hospital on August 24, 2021, after a 4-month battle with pneumonia, following an adverse reaction to the covid vaccine.&nbsp;</p> <p>Monty is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen Miller, his son Joseph (Emma); his daughter Stephanie (Russell) Gazar, his daughter Danielle (Charles) Kallus, and grandchildren Isabella &amp; Gabriella Miller, Jason (Laura) Kallus, and Aubrey and Braeden Kallus; his sister Cheryl Larson, her partner Ian and her children Tracey, Kelly, and Lance (wife Julie); and too many loving in laws to name.&nbsp; Monty was preceded in death by his parents Bud and Lucille, aunts, and uncles and most recently his brother Terry Ray Miller.&nbsp;</p> <p>Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 11:00 at St Thomas More Catholic Church 130 N Pecos Rd Henderson, NV 89074.&nbsp; He will be laid to rest at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Monty L Miller, loving husband to Kathleen, father to Joseph, Stephanie, Danielle, and grandfather ‘pa’ to Jason, Aubrey, Braeden, Isabella and Gabriela left us on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.
