Beatrice Abernathy, 95, of Hickory died Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born November 6th, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Gertha Griffey. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, whose smile will be missed. Her three daughters Claudia Drum and husband Paul of Hudson, Emma Townsend of Vale, and Brenda Miller and husband David Allen of Newton; her two sons Lowell Abernathy of Hickory and Randy Abernathy and wife Karen of Bethlehem; her daughter-in-law Gail Abernathy of Hickory; and her sixteen grandchildren Tommy Abernathy Jr., Melissa Abernathy, Davey Townsend, Dusty Townsend, Jason Miller, Clint Drum, Kelly Drum, Shauna Miller Gilbert, Stacie Townsend Patterson, Amanda Abernathy Stokes, Jordan Miller, Jennifer Drum Goforth, Jeffrey Drum, Andy Abernathy, Becki Abernathy Pippen, and Lindsey Abernathy Roberts; and 28 great-grandchildren survive her. In addition to her parents her husband W.E. Abernathy; her son Tommy Abernathy; her son-in-law Wilbert Townsend; and her great-grandson Devon Abernathy preceded her in death. The funeral will be 3:00 pm Sunday, February 9th, 2020 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor William Kannup officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on 6156 Mountain Grove Church Rd, Hickory, NC 28602.
