Arthur Preston Hood, “Pres,” died suddenly at home on September 7, 2021. Pres was born in McComb, Mississippi on February 4, 1943, to Arthur Etheredge Hood, Jr. and Sue Field Hood. There can be no doubt that his family was his greatest joy, the foundation of which was his 56-year marriage with the love of his life, Ann Ory Hood.
Pres attended Amite High School, in Amite, LA, as well as Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1965, he left LSU to start his career in the automotive industry at Hood Motor Company in Amite, LA. In 1969, he moved his family to Fort Walton Beach, FL, where he found both a career and more importantly a passion for building relationships with his employees and successful teams of individuals. Pres dedicated much of his life to his community, including serving on the board at First National Bank, the finance committee of the Fort Walton Beach First United Methodist Church, and as a founding partner of the Indian Bayou Golf Club. Most recently, he worked with the city to establish the Preston Hood Sports Complex. He was also a member of the Highlands Country Club, in Highlands, NC.
He was an avid fisherman, and his love of the outdoors began as a young boy alongside his father. Whether he was snow skiing, traveling, boating, fishing, golfing, playing cards, or enthusiastically watching football, all of his passions centered around bringing family and friends together. He loved creating communities out of individuals and he leaves a legacy of working hard, creating joy, and giving generously.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, his sister, Bonnie Sue Barrilleaux, and his two children, Ashley Hood Carey (Bobby) and Taylor Preston Hood (Laurie). He was the cherished grandfather of Carter McGehee Carey, Grant Pennington Carey, Joseph Preston Carey, Colton Crockett Hood, and Garner Preston Hood.
