On Saturday, September 4, 2021, on one of the most beautiful days of the year, God extended his hand and invited Mark home. We know that Mark, a faithful servant, was ready to be received by the Lord and the loving arms of his mother. We can only imagine his excitement to see the light and know he was entering the Kingdom...a place of eternal rest, guided by love and serenity. 

    As a child Mark grew up in Jersey City, NJ with his sister Margaret and their parents Mark and Geraldine. Mark was creative and always thought outside of the box. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to play pranks...attaching money to a fishing line and just as people on the sidewalk would reach down to pick it up, he would reel in the line laughing endlessly!  As a 16-year-old teenager he taught himself to ride a bike. Once he got on, he never got off, literally! He loved his bicycle so much that he rode from NJ to Florida, his adventure even making the newspaper! 

    As history goes, many young men shared the same chapter... the draft to the Vietnam War. His story, however, is unique. Even at an early age, Mark had a strong sense of himself and what he believed in. There was an awareness and appreciation for life. All life, from people to the spider on the wall was precious to Mark. He made the decision to serve his Country and to help others without sacrificing his core values. As a member of the Army, he traveled overseas, never carrying a weapon. He dedicated years of his life serving and caring for others as a Medic. He returned home a hero, a decorated war Veteran, having received the Purple Heart.

    Mark returned, fell in love, and married his sweetheart, Joanie Hannon. As newlyweds they were both dreamers. They loved the road less traveled. They wrote plays together, obtained their real estate licenses and even opened a boutique, named Peaches & Cream. 

    The couple went on to welcome their first daughter April. They established roots in Nutley, NJ. Having a child and with hopes of having another, Mark began working at the Post Office in Teaneck.  He loved being outside and always came home full of stories. His route had many famous people, even James Brown! They would welcome their second child, a bouncing blue eyed baby girl into the world, Lisa. 

    A few years later they would follow Mark's family to NH where they dreamed of raising their girls in the country.  Mark transferred to the Concord Post Office, where he would befriend two of his greatest friends, Don Walker, and Bill O'Brien. They became the three musketeers.  The three shared a common interest in politics and religion.  Mark, with his creative and artistic abilities, would sketch political cartoons, creating a stir and always challenging people to think for themselves. Anyone who knew Mark as their mailman, knew his heart. He always carried treats for the pets and even went so far as to handwrite Christmas cards to every person on his route.  The South End was his home away from home. 

Mark eventually retired from the Post Office as a result of being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. 

He enjoyed his days reading, studying the Bible, admiring art, and spending time with his family. Mark was a grandfather to 4 grandchildren and recently became a great grandfather.  Mark loved his family with every fiber of his being. 

    For the last four years Mark has been an active resident of the NH Veterans Home. He described this experience as a "rebirth”. The once shy man felt a zest for life and yearning to try new things. He took up boxing and loved it! He created original pieces of art and established new friendships through social activities.

    There is a profound sadness and sense of loss to those he has left behind. He was predeceased by his parents Mark Dunn Sr. and Geraldine Dunn. He leaves behind a sister, Margaret McGann of Santa Fe, NM,and her two children, Sean McGann also of Santa Fe, and Liam McGann of NY, his former wife, Joan Andrews of Concord, daughters Lisa Dunn of Penacook with her fiance Phil Ramsden, April Dunn of Hopkinton, son in law Gelson Correa,  4 grandchildren,  Joseph Petricca of Dover, Victoria Petricca of Salem,  Gelson Correa and Isabella Correa of Hopkinton and most recent great grandson Deno Peterson.  Mark left the world a better place.  He would want us to Rejoice for his journey has led him home. He would want us to sing Praise Jesus! 

    Calling hours will be held at Paquette- Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St. Northfield, on Monday September 13th from 5 to 7pm, followed by a chapel service at the NH Veterans Cemetery, 110 DW Hwy Boscawen NH, on Tuesday September 14th at 1 pm.  For Directions and an online guestbook are available at www.neunfuneralhomes.com
