Sarah Lindsey Obituary

Sarah Lindsey, aged 87, passed peacefully from this world early during the morning of September 6, 2021.  Born Sarah Ruth Helton on June 22, 1934, Sarah lived almost 60 years of her life close by the side of her devoted husband, James Eugene (Gene) Lindsey, who provided loving care for Sarah to the very end.  Sarah is survived by Gene, her three children (Dan, Shelia, and Delia), and her seven grandchildren (Allen, Anika, Jennifer, Kyle, William, Serena, and Gavin).

Born in the small Northwest Georgia town of Ringgold, Georgia, Sarah moved to the big city of Atlanta where she met Gene – first her boss at General Electric, and then her husband.  Sarah and Gene built their marital home in locales as far and wide as Atlanta, Phoenix, Oklahoma City, Connecticut, Dunwoody, and Gainesville.  Sarah and Gene opened their hearts and their home, first, by adopting Dan, as a toddler, and then, even more bravely, by adopting a teen and a tween, Shelia and Delia.  Over the years, Sarah delighted in the growth of her extended family through the addition of seven grandchildren.

Sarah was the sun around which her family members orbited.  She was a constant source of love, warmth, and positivity.  Like her own mother, she weathered the aches and pains of life with constant grace, radiating good cheer with her smiles, her laughs, and her hugs.  Sarah loved to read, instilling that love in her son Dan, whose love of words led him to graduate cum laude from Harvard Law School.  Sarah also loved bridge, a passion she was able to enjoy throughout her life.

Indeed, it is hard not to imagine that, even now, Sarah is happily ensconced in a comfortable chair, holding her cards, counting her points, with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye, contemplating her opening bid, anticipating the hand to come, happily embracing her well-earned spot in that Great Duplicate Bridge Game in the Sky, a game that she enjoys for the game itself, and also for the joy it brings both to her and to all of those who surround her, forever and ever, amen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little and Davenport Funeral Home. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
