Marion Marietta SHANNON (Greaves) Obituary

Marion Marietta Shannon (Greaves) nee Hoxworth.

February 20,1944 – August 28, 2021

Marion passed away peacefully with family by her side at Dufferin Place extended care in Nanaimo, B.C. on August 28th, 2021. She was a gentle warrior during her five year battle to overcome multiple complex health issues which she both reluctantly and graciously surrendered to at the age of 77.

She was predeceased by her mother (Emeline Hoxworth) and son Mclean Greaves. She is survived by her husband  Art Shannon; and blended family; daughters Janeese and Shelley; sons David (Edith), Peter (Laurellynn), Jeffrey (Nicole), Ian and Brent (Bin) and grandchildren Daniel, Precious, Jennifer, Jahkan, Alyssa, Alijah, Azariah, Amaya, Jaird, Maaike, Johanna, Kyle, Brody, Amos and Brenna as well as great grand kids Tiffany, and Kane.

Marion was born in Barbados and immigrated to Canada in 1967 residing in both Winnipeg and Prince Rupert before settling in Nanaimo and working as an Operating room technician at Nanaimo General Regional Hospital for over 30 years.

Marion will be deeply missed and remembered by her family, friends, and co workers for her faith in God, warmth, kindness, strength, courage and ability to light up a room. She always focused on the other person, no matter the obstacles she faced. In her final years, while almost fully blind, she always “saw” everyone she encountered at their very best and made them feel even better for having been in her presence.

Marions final months were spent in the hospital where she had worked all those years and her family is deeply grateful for the tender loving care that she received from the nurses and staff at Nanaimo General Regional Hospital Palliative Care; Home Support; Dufferin Place extended care; Dr. Davina Kazanowski, as well as from her “Tribe” of hospital workmates Jan Miller, Joan Smith, Candice Jamieson, Doreen Johnson, and Barb Smart.

A memorial service will be held in Nanaimo B.C. for family and friends and all those touched by her warm sparkling spirit.
