William "Bill" Jene Unger Obituary

Peacefully on September 6th, 2021 after a 22 month journey with cancer with his wife by his side and many, many prayers, and visits from his friends, family, brothers, and sisters in Christ, Bill went to be with his Lord and savior at the age of 73 at Carberry Hospital.

Born in Winkler, 1947 to William and Elizabeth Unger, he was the youngest of the 4 children.

In 1970 he joined his brother in law, Dick, on a joint venture in carpentry, building many a house, doing this for many years . He then went on his own doing construction and worked for Decor Cabinets. Bill worked on a feed lot, cow/calf operation, and potato farm. He was blessed to work for his brother in law and nephews for 15 years in potato and grain farming, which he enjoyed very much. He then went onto drive potato trucks for a few years at potato harvest.

He loved horses and he hunted quite a lot in his earlier years. Bill and Shelley had many wonderful years with the horses and team penning.  He also enjoyed having his cows and calves. We were blessed to have some boarding horses, cows and calves in the pasture the last few years.

He has 2 daughters from a previous marriage. He married Shelley Milne, November 1992.

He loved his daughters very much and did what he could to make some memories with them when he got to see them. He did get to video- chat with them when he was on a leave last weekend from the hospital. He adored his only granddaughter, Taiya, making some memories last October in Moose Jaw.

Bill never really retired, he continued with carpentry when he was needed, even though he was tired, he was a true carpenter; It had to be straight and done right.  He and Shelley have attended Gladstone Christian Fellowship for 20 years. Bill and Shelley just finished 3 years on the mission committee. Bill loved his Lord.

Bill was predeceased by his mom and dad, step mom, his brother, and 3 brothers in law.

Bill is survived by his wife Shelley, 2 daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Taiya Stinson, Carissa. And their mother, Helen; Sisters, Tena (Glen) Sawatzky and Edna; Sister in law Clara; granddaughter, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Carberry Hospital. Thanks Kevin, Kelly and Kim. And Dr. Azabbu and all other staff who provided care for Bill and myself.
