Susan Johnson Obituary

Susan Kay Johnson was born October 26, 1954 in International Falls, MN. A day she would never let you forget as she always loved celebrating her birthday. She was the daughter of Edward Johnson and Maxine Personius. After Maxine passed, Susan went to live with her aunt and uncle Don and Sadie Turnbull.

Susan thoroughly enjoyed time spent with Don and Sadie. Susan and Sadie traveled to many places of which Susan often talked. Together they traveled to all fifty states and after that accomplishment, they went on to visit 82 countries. Her bedroom was filled with treasures from her beloved trips. She jumped at the opportunity to sit with someone and share her pictures and memories of the many places she visited.

Susan attended school in Frazee and Detroit Lakes, MN. Susan attended the Becker County DAC until her health no longer allowed. She enjoyed the relationships she had with staff and her peers. While attending the DAC, Susan enjoyed working, going on various outings to eat, and playing Bingo. She enjoyed the company of others.

After Sadie’s passing, Susan resided with many great organizations – Mrs. Anderson’s Group Home near Frazee, Smith Group Home in Detroit Lakes and later Frazee, Divine House, Inc., and Diamond Willow. Many staff members have fond memories of time spent with Susan and the special memories made together.

Susan’s faith was very important to her and you would often hear her singing ‘Jesus Loves Me’ while coloring or drawing. Although she lost ability to use both hands, she still played the piano beautifully one-handed. Susan was a big fan of John Denver and knew almost every song by heart. She loved sitting outside in the sunshine. Susan enjoyed playing solitaire, Kings in the Corner, and would rarely turn down a game of Skip-Bo.

Susan is survived by her guardian, Myra Eastman, Detroit Lakes, MN. Susan is also survived by numerous brothers and sisters.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents and her aunt and uncle Don and Sadie Turnbull.
