Andrew Michael Mistic, Sr. Obituary

Andrew Mistic Sr., 76, died Saturday, September 4, 2021, unexpectedly on the land that he loved.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2021 following a 10:00am visitation hour at St. John’s Catholic Church, Nebish, MN. There will be an additional visitation from 6pm-8pm on Thursday, September 9 with a prayer service at 6:30pm at the church.

Andrew Mistic Sr., Andy, was born February 10, 1945 to Peter and Anne Mistic in Bemidji, MN. He spent his life in the Puposky/Nebish area of northern Minnesota. His education began at the Nebish School and he graduated from Bemidji High School in 1963. Andy became an electrician and was a member of IBEW Local Union 294. He worked several years for both Hanson and Naylor Electric. This was a large part of his life and he inspired his son and grandson to follow in his career path. Andy and Stephanie Lakin were married in August 1965 and had two children together, Gail and Brad. After losing Stephanie, Andy found love again and married Debbie Strand on May 31, 1980. Andy and Debbie had a son, Andy Jr. and they have built a family life bound by love for the last forty-one years.

Andy was loved by both friends and family.  He enjoyed his regular meetings with his coffee crew and was an integral part of the Puposky/Nebish community. His family was an active part of the things he enjoyed doing. He went on a number of hunting trips to places like Montana and Alaska and spent every deer season in the northwoods with his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed fishing and was always good for a laugh at the annual family fishing trip at Lake of the Woods. When he was home, he maintained an impressive garden by the lake, bought and restored John Deere tractors and made his own maple syrup. Andy loved to spend time with his grandchildren and made sure to attend plenty of their games and events. He always put his family first – they were his true source of pride and joy.

Andy is survived by his wife, Debbie Mistic, children, Gail Dockendorf (Bill), Brad Mistic (Katherine) and Andy Mistic Jr. (Lora), grandchildren: Michael (Jade), Lindsey, Jack, Daniel, Ben, Camryn, Jake and Luke, great-grandchild, Avery, step-grandchildren Camren (Sam), Cole (Makenna) and Jacob.  Sisters-in-law, Laverne Mistic, Lorene Blank (Bob), Marlyce Trepanier, brother-in-law Robert Strand and many nieces and nephews. Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anne Mistic, his siblings Pete Mistic, Paul Mistic, Joe Mistic (Eileen), Angie Sande (Bud) and Mona Pears (Dick), his first wife, Stephanie Lakin, his in laws, Oscar and Eleanor Strand and Claude and Betty Lakin, and his brother in law, Bill Trepanier.
