Thomas Clyde Aston Obituary

Thomas Clyde Aston passed away on September 1, 2021, after battling cancer. He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on May 3, 1953 to Samuel and Viola Birtcher Aston.

Tom grew up in Las Vegas and attended Rancho High School, then went on to Ricks College and BYU. At BYU, he met and fell in love with Diane Sumsion “Blondie”. She liked sports as much as he did, and it was a match made in heaven. They married on August 4, 1978 in the Salt Lake Temple and spent the next 43 years enjoying numerous shared hobbies and interests.

Tom showed his love and devotion to God by finding ways to serve others. He also served faithfully in every calling asked of him as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whether Bishop, counselor in the Stake Presidency, Young Men’s President, or primary teacher. As a young man, he served in the New England Mission, then later in life served with his wife in the California Ventura Mission. He also loved serving in the Bountiful Temple. As his health declined this year, he often said he never felt the Spirit so close.

Tom enjoyed a career in banking. He was a fun-loving person with no shortage of hobbies. In his younger years, he loved playing baseball and basketball. He later turned to running, hunting, camping, and traveling, until his true passion became golf. He was a devout Jazz and BYU fan, and loved attending the games. Not even a battle with cancer could keep him from doing the things he loved. He was busy having fun until the very end.

Tom was loving and a friend to all.

Tom is survived by his mother Viola, wife Diane, her parents Richard and LaPrele Sumsion, three siblings Gary Aston, Joyce Asay, Jared Aston, four children Stacey (Todd) Sears, Derek (Maxine) Aston, Leslie (Adam) Cuppett, Kelsy (Talmage) Call, and 14 grandchildren.

They will all greatly miss his infectious laughter and sense of humor. He was the life of the family parties.

A viewing will take place on September 9 from 6:30-8:30pm and September 10 from 9:30-10:45am. Funeral services will begin September 10 at 11:00am. All services will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel located at 1955 So. 350 E. Kaysville, Utah. Burial will be at Kaysville Cemetery.

Virtual option for funeral will be: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkJK9Z-UsOejBOmEc1hxfmA

A special thanks to the medical staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute for their care.
