Bernard Frank McGaughey

<p><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Bernard Frank McGaughey, age 84, of Fenelton, passed to his heavenly home with his family by his side on September 2, 2021 at his residence.&nbsp; Born October 12, 1936 in Dayton, Pa, he was the son of the late Beryl C. and Isabelle (Brown) McGaughey, of Rural Valley, Pa.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Bernie was a graduate of Dayton High School.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Armed Forces from June 1955 through May 1963, with two years active duty in Korea and four years in the reserves.&nbsp; He received the good conduct medal, sharpshooter and marksman badges, and was honorably discharged.&nbsp; He was co-founder along with his father of M &amp; M Lime Company, Inc. in Worthington, established in 1958, which still operates today.&nbsp; He also was employed by B &amp; O Railroad for 10 years prior to and in the beginning of M &amp; M Lime, along with working night shifts for PennDOT.&nbsp; In the early 1980s, Bernie was instrumental, along with fellow businessmen Wayne Sell, John Thrower, Gary Karnes, and others in the revival, restoration, and subsequent reopening of Armstrong Cement &amp; Supply Company.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Bernie was an active and lifelong member of Franklin Union Baptist Church in Worthington where he served throughout the years as a Deacon, Trustee, Advisory Council member, and on various committees of the church.&nbsp; He was also a former member of the Alamo Squares Dance Club, Armstrong County.&nbsp; Bernie loved the outdoors and especially loved hunting on his properties and out West.&nbsp; Other activities he enjoyed were camping, fishing, boating, and square dancing.&nbsp; What he adored most was working alongside his family and employees at M &amp; M Lime.&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie A. (Somerville) McGaughey, whom he married on May 17, 1958, and their three children, Scott and Beth (Muir) McGaughey, of Worthington, Tammy McGaughey, of Chicora, and Kelli McGaughey, of Butler; nine grandchildren, Breanna McGaughey, Madison McGaughey, Lance and Katie (Pflugh) Hinton, Connor Hinton, Brock Hinton, Jesse Spohn, Levi Spohn, and Colton Spohn; one great-grandchild, Nora Hinton; sisters, Beverly Stewart, of Rural Valley, and Roberta (Jack) Stroupe, of Rural Valley; sister-in-law, Martha McGaughey, of Dayton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin and Karen (Mulneix) Somerville, of Carbon Center; and many special nieces and nephews that he greatly loved. &nbsp;In addition to his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by his brother Duane C. McGaughey; brothers-in-law, Dale Stewart and Paul Somerville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bette and Lester Boyer, and Etheldreda &ldquo;Iggie&rdquo; and Bill Somerville;&nbsp;and his nephews, Loren Stewart and Randy Stroupe.</strong></p> <p><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The family is honoring Bernie&rsquo;s wishes of a private viewing and funeral service for immediate family only.&nbsp; Burial will be in Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery.&nbsp; A memorial service for the public will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Franklin Union Baptist Church, 106 Century Hill Lane, Worhington, Pa 16262.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial donations may be made in Bernie&rsquo;s honor to Franklin Union Baptist Church, P.O. Drawer E, Worthington, Pa 16262.&nbsp; Also, the family would treasure any letters of special memories with Bernie.&nbsp; Arrangements are under the care of the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home in Worthington.&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong></p>
