John Thomas "Jack" Myers, of Lander Wyoming, died at Wind River Rehabilitation and Wellness Nursing Home on September 6, 2016. He was 91 years old. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Chapel of Mount Hope in Hudson's Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 9:00am -10:00am on Tuesday, September 13th and funeral services will begin at 10:00am at the Chapel of Mount Hope in Hudson's Funeral home; burial to follow at Aragon Cemetery near Kinnear, WY. Full obituary to follow at a later time. Mr. Myers was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Reservation and enrolled member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. John Thomas Myers was born December 7, 1924 at Diversion Dam, the son of Thomas Myers and Mary (Aragon) Myers. He attended grade school in the Ethete area, and graduated from the Fremont County Vocational High School in Lander, WY. John joined the Navy Air Corps and was stationed on the USS Ticonderoga during World War II. After honorable discharge in 1945, John continued to serve in the Naval Reserve and Army National Guard for several years. He returned to the Lander area and worked for the Wyoming Highway Department, Northern Utilities, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1961 John transferred to USPHS Indian Health Service working in the Engineering/ Environmental Health departments to provide sanitation and water to homes on the Wind River Reservation. He retired from Indian Health Service in 1998 having worked in civil service for more than 49 years. John was a life member of the American Legion Post #81, VFW Post#954, a Master Mason in Wyoming Lodge #2 A.F., and a member of the Lander Shrine Club. John started his volunteer fire service career with the Fort Washakie Fire Department in 1954. He joined the Lander Volunteer Fire Department in 1958. In 2004, John was honored by Governor Dave Freudenthal for 50 years of Fire Service in Wyoming. He retired from the Lander Volunteer Fire Department in 2014 surpassing 55 years as an active member. John was always an active person and took pride in helping his family and friends. He greeted you with a "howdy" and stood for the simple basic values of life: humility, honesty, courage, loyalty, and hard work. He leaves behind his close friend, Margaret Cooper; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins of the Padia, Bishop, Meyers & Aragon families. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Juanita Cashen, Marie LeBeau, Maryanne Alberson, Alene "Pansy" McKee, Luella Meyers, Ruby Anderson and Pearl Tack; and brothers Louis Bishop and Pete Padia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospitals or the Lander Volunteer Fire Department through the Hudson Funeral Home, 680 Mt.
