Obituary

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Edward Garneau at the age of 84 on August 28, 2021 at the Edson hospital with his wife and daughters at his side. Ed was born on May 20,1937 in Westlock Alberta and lived in Legal until he was about 6 years old before moving to Edmonton. He was the eldest of nine children growing up in Edmonton, Alberta.  He married the love of his life Jeanette in 1962.  They lived in Edmonton, Legal and Morinville before settling and raising his family in Edson in 1975.

Ed lived a full life enjoying the many things that life had to offer. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and camping with family and friends. He was a jack of all trades from painting, carpentry and mechanics.  He was willing to take on any project and did it well.  He liked to get his exercise in, so you would often find him either walking or riding his bike around town. In his spare time, he enjoyed volunteering with in the community and meeting up with the boys for coffee. He was never too old to try something he hadn’t done before, even at the age of 75 he got his motor bike license and bought a spider and hit the road riding. He also adored spending time with his precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed loved a good time and especially enjoyed getting together with his siblings and their families playing guitars and having a sing along.

Ed was predeceased by his father and mother; Louis and Marie- Louise Garneau, brother Paul and sisters Pauline Garneau and Jean Slywka.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years, Jeanette (Oleksiw), his three daughters Jackie (Paul) Grant, Yvette (Wayne) Iwaschuk and Louise (Keith) Bills. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Kara, Travis, Marc, Amanda, Kelsey, Kenzie and Kaylan. Also, his great grandchildren Georgia, Ellis, Ella and Oliver.

He is also survived by his sister Annette Barynowski and brothers Leo, Norm, Rene and Real Garneau and a host of nieces and nephews.

Respecting Ed’s wishes there will be a small private family service.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember him can do so by making a donation in Ed’s memory to the Edson Seniors Cabin, Alberta Diabetes Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Sood, and the medical staff at the Edson Healthcare Centre.
