Violet Palaniuk Obituary

Violet was born on the family farm to Charlie and Gertie Peterson on May 25th, 1924.  She attended Beaver Falls School and received most of her education there.  She worked at various jobs, both at Sherridon and Flin Flon, Manitoba.  She helped with the cooking at Denare Beach and Armit bush camps (she hated being there and could hardly wait for spring to come so she could go home).

Violet grew a big garden.  She did a lot of canning and freezing of vegetables, picking berries, and canning fruit.  She made lots of dill pickles for James, and he loved his sauerkraut, which Violet was happy to make.  Violet won several trophies for Five Pin Bowling.  She was a member of the READ Club and loved playing Rummy with her friends.

Violet loved music and sang in the United Church Choir as well as the Community Choir for many years.  She joined the UCW in 1970 and took an active roll being President, Treasurer, and helped where ever she was needed.  She received her life membership after 10 years’ service.  Many years ago, after serving lunch for a funeral, Violet said to one of the girls, “I think I’ll be next.”  The girl’s response was “if you do go, we will go over to you and say, ‘Get up Violet! It’s time to make sandwiches!’”

Violet enjoyed the outdoors and life on the farm.  She liked watching the birds come to the bird feeder to eat, just outside her picture window.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  James and Violet were married October 22, 1947, and spent 67 years together.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband; James, infant daughter; Bonnie Lee, grand-daughter; Kenzie, son-in-law; Bernie, five sisters; Clara, Agnes, Gladys, Ethel and Eileen, and three brothers; Clarence, Lawrence and Morris.

Violet is lovingly remembered by her children; Brenda of Sturgis, Brian and Judy of Winnipeg, Danny and Marlene of Sturgis, Dale and Collene of Saskatoon, her nine grandchildren; Noel and Mathew of Regina, Jenelle of Sturgis, Drew of Australia, Karen of Winnipeg, Heather of Kelowna, Chad and Ronda of Sturgis, and Ashton of Saskatoon, and her sixteen greatgrandchildren; Luke, Jesse and Layne Lubiniecki, Connor and Ayden Borus, Sylas Daignault, Tristen, Jesse James, Jade and Ryder Beatty and Cole, Jake, Mattie, Jane and Max Palaniuk and Brooklyn Violet, and Camilla Lubiniecki as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.  They all meant so much to her.
