Susanna Kay Smith Obituary

SMITH, Susanna Kay, age 55, lost her battle with cancer on May 12, 2014. Susie was born in Dayton, OH, the sixth child of Marjorie & Don Smith. She graduated from Oakwood High School in 1978, and then attended Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY. In 1982 she married and so began her journey that would lead her to the beautiful Northwest. Susie enjoyed living in Texas (twice), Oklahoma City, where her daughter Megan was born in 1986, and Memphis, TN where her second daughter Molly was born in 1989. In 1990 the family moved to Federal Way, WA and Susie soon began planting roots in the community. She was very instrumental in helping organize and create the first Federal Way Parks and Recreation Pre-school Program in 1991. She was a creative and instrumental leader in the program for 15+ years, teaching, encouraging, loving and supporting hundreds of pre-schoolers. After leaving the Federal Way Parks and Recreation department in 2005 she again followed her love of positively impacting young lives by volunteering with Communities In Schools, mentoring young middle school students. Susie also volunteered many hours at St. Luke's Church serving as hostess for the new members class. She enjoyed the simple things in life most and was happiest when she was with family, friends and her pups. She will be remembered most as a person who constantly put the needs of others first. Susie is survived by her two daughters, Megan Haskins (Craig), Molly Stephens (future son-in-law Dustin Martin), five siblings, Debbie Kisicki (James), Becky Smith, Jeff Smith (Debbie), Greg Smith (Sue) and Kent Smith (Stacie), nieces Brynn Whitby, Kate Kisicki, Becca Kisicki, Lindsay Smith and Kelsey Smith, nephews, Nick Smith (Lindsey), Brandon Smith, Ben Smith, Matthew Smith and Connor Smith, great-niece Anna Smith and great-nephew Harrison Smith. Susie is now celebrating in the presence of Jesus with her parents. We want to thank the Hospice Angels and the dedicated caregivers of St. Franciscan Health Systems. As well, a special thank you to Becky Smith who lovingly devoted her time as primary caregiver over the last 16 months. We would also like to thank her many friends, especially from Oakwood High School, who were very supportive during her illness. A Mass, to celebrate Susie's life will be held at 10am Monday, June 2nd at Holy Angels Church in Dayton, OH. A graveside service will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice or cancer research. Funeral Home: Kettering Routsong Funeral Home 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH US 45429
