Harold J. Ingalls, age 88, of Clear Lake, SD passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, SD. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. Burial will be held at a later date in the Milbank City Cemetery, Milbank, SD. Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake, SD is entrusted with the arrangements. Harold Julius Ingalls was born May 30, 1933 on the family farm near Altamont, SD to Howard and Edna (Maass) Ingalls. He was raised on the family farm where he attended country school through the 8th grade. Following his education, he worked on the farm and at Quinlan Tupa in Clear Lake until being drafted into the United States Army. He served stateside in Texas during the Korean War where he worked as a mechanic. Harold was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned home where he began to work for JH Drewlow Ford in Milbank, SD where he worked for 15 years. Harold was married to Donna Schaffer and they had three sons: Tim, Todd and Terry. Harold began working road construction for a short time before he started working for his father Howard at the Texaco Station in Clear Lake, SD. Later he worked as a lineman for HD Electric in Clear Lake where he worked until 1985. Harold was united in marriage to Mary Jane (Matheis) Jorgensen on June 25, 1977 at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. They lived in Clear Lake where they joined their two families, raising five sons. Following his career at HD Electric, Harold started a lawn care and snow removal business that kept him busy year-round. He also sold Rupp snowmobiles and did maintenance work on all snowmobiles as well as being trained in air conditioning installation and maintenance. Harold also worked on cars, and many would stop by his house and have Harold work on their cars. Harold had a Golf Course Aerification business and was a seasonal maintenance worker for South Dakota Game, Fish and Park. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. He was a founding member of the Cloud 9 Flying Club and held a private pilot’s license. Harold served as a special Deputy for the Deuel County Sheriff’s Department and also served on the volunteer fire department and ambulance in Clear Lake. He and his sons ran the summer Roller Skating at the school for the Clear Lake Commercial Club, and served as a Cub Scout, Scout Master. He enjoyed fishing, photography and loved making homemade ice cream with his specialty being Cherry Nut. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Mary Jane Ingalls, Clear Lake, SD; three sons: Tim (Kim) Ingalls, Sioux Falls, SD, Todd (Beth) Ingalls, Belle Plaine, MN and Terry (Elaine) Ingalls, Watertown, SD; one stepson Jeff Jorgensen, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren: Rob (Jill) Ingalls, Sara (Justin) Shatto, Josh and Jon Ingalls; two great-grandchildren: Eleanor and Eli Shatto and another one on the way! Two sisters: Betty Rhodes and Audrey Jensen. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; stepson Kevin Jorgensen; and two brothers-in-law: Darrel Jensen and Bruce Rhodes.
